Foundation of Entrepreneurship Lesson Eight:Business Model Innovation

Introduction
 
Business Model Innovation is regarded as one of the most important factors in market smashing advancements in the 21st-century economy. These groundbreaking businesses are appreciated and highly valued by asset management firms, and often attract significant capital investment. The secret of success by Google and Alibaba in achieving their leadership positions in the Internet industry lies within their innovative, revolutionizing business models. The process of business model design is an ever-improving cycle composed of trial and error. Therefore, it is critical to identify the core objective of one’s business model, and to make use of any applicable analytical methods that can help create and refine a highly efficient business model.
 
In the next lecture, we will invite Weixin Lao, a Visiting Professor at the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship of PKU, a Professor in the Information Engineering Department of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the former director of the Asia-Pacific Research Center, Harvard Business School, to explore the development of business models. By sharing his experiences in early stage investment and the training of young entrepreneurs, he will educate us on the core and vital factors of business model design.
 
 
Faculty Biography
 
Dr. Weixin Lao has over 20 years of working experience in the telecommunications, technology, and media industries. His previous experience includes positions with Bell Labs, Cable & Wireless Innovation, Hong Kong Telecom, and S Venture, an early stage investment company.
 
Dr. Lao was a Senior Researcher at Harvard Business School’s (HBS) Asia-Pacific Research Center. He teaches regularly on Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the EMBA and MSc level at CUHK. Since 2012, he has been co-teaching Entrepreneurship courses in School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship of PKU, where he is a Visiting Professor.
