Chinalawinfo Co. Ltd

Chinalawinfo Co. Ltd. is an online legal information service established by Peking University in association with the university’s Legal Information Center. The Legal Information Center has pioneered the development of electronic law databases in China. Since 1985, Chinalawinfo has steered the domestic development of online legal research and rolled out services including software development, online legal education, and legal translation.

Chinalawinfo strives to provide users with the most comprehensive and user-friendly services for online Chinese legal research. Currently, we supply a suite of bilingual (Chinese-English) databases complementing our more comprehensive Chinese-language offerings.

lawinfochina.com (and the newly launched en.pkulaw.cn) provides users with access to English-language versions of a wide range of China-related legal information.

The English Translation Database comprises several sub-databases. The flagship service of lawinfochina.com, the Laws & Regulations database, is supplemented by extensive databases for Judicial Cases, Legal News and other legal materials. Additionally, our Gazettes and Law Journals databases allow users to view complete title indexes for official government gazettes and a selection of China’s most respected law journals.

Much of the material in our English Translation Database is tailored to the needs of individuals or institutions with international perspectives, including governments, intergovernmental organizations, universities and law firms. Where our current services do not cover specific items of client interest, we also offer translation services and related language consulting.

1. Laws & Regulations

The Laws & Regulations database includes thousands of Chinese laws, regulations, rules, judicial interpretations, local regulations, and local rules in more than 50 areas of law. It includes laws and regulations from 1949 to the present, which are updated regularly. Materials also cover judicial interpretations, local and municipal regulations, contracts and legal forms, laws concerning Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan, Sino-foreign treaties, foreign laws and regulations, legal news, legislative history, and much more.

2. Judicial Cases

The Judicial Cases database contains English translations of representative judicial decisions approved and published by the Supreme People's Court or the Supreme People's Procuratorate. Subject areas include administrative law, civil law, criminal law, economic law, intellectual property law, and maritime law. Cases are selected to reflect both current and future trends in law and practice.

3. Tax Treaties

For legal professionals advising clients on tax matters, our Tax Treaties database covers all currently effective tax treaties the Chinese government has entered into with foreign governments (including the Hong Kong SAR).

4. Gazettes (title index)

Gazettes are official Chinese government publications containing regulations and related explanations, reports, deliberations, speeches, circulars, and notices. The Gazettes database enables users to search and browse the title indexes of gazettes including those of the National People's Congress, the State Council, and the Supreme People's Court.

5. Legal News

The Legal News database contains important legal news since 2000, giving legal professionals the ability to track past and current legal events and legislative developments in China.

6. WTO and China

The Law Yearbook of China provides a recap of developments in the Chinese legal system on issues such as lawmaking, law enforcement, legal education, and legal research. All materials in the Yearbook are provided by central and local governments and are accurate and authoritative.

7. Law Journals(title index)

The Law Journals database allows users to search and read the full text of two leading Chinese law journals and browse the title indexes of many other prominent law journals in both English and Chinese (some information in Chinese only).

8. White Papers

The White Papers database contains all policy papers drafted and published by the central government since 1991.
